DJ Sunny

DJ Sunny may have grown up listening to Bollywood music, but his love of Latin music is growing by the day.

DJ Sunny grew up in India and moved to Cairns five years ago. His passion for salsa was ignited when he met his wife-to-be Carol Rose while they were working at Casa de Meze as a chef and a Salsa Dance Teacher.

Sunny plays a variety of Latin music, including salsa, merengue, cha cha, reggaeton and bachata, as well as his favourite music, RnB.

"I play a variety of music to keep everyone happy," Sunny says.

"Even if I don't dance, when I see people dancing and having a good night then I'm satisfied.

"I've always been interested in music, and I did Bollywood dancing while I was at uni in Bombay (now Mumbai).

"Salsa and Bollywood dancing are not about style, they're about having fun and listening to the music."

Sunny and his dance partner Lisa Briscoe competed in last year's Tropical North Queensland salsa championships.

Sunny and Lisa choreographed their own routine, incorporating Bollywood moves, and placed third in the competition.

DJ Sunny plays a mix of Latin and Top 40 Tunes (new & old) at Cairns's only Latin dance Venue, Casa de Meze, on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 2am. For more information, phone 4051 5550.
